Heterogeneous and homogeneous mixtures are two types of mixtures that differ in their composition and properties. A heterogeneous mixture is a combination of two or more substances that are not uniformly distributed and can be visibly distinguished, such as oil and water. In contrast, a homogeneous mixture has a uniform composition and appearance throughout, such as salt dissolved in water.
